NOTE:
Your system's email configuration\settings may
attempt to add a file
extension
to the LSERVRC (license) file. MS Explorer adds
.html; Netscape
adds
.htm; Outlook adds .dat. Save the file to the
appropriate directory
and
remove the file extension. Failure to do so will
cause the license
file
to be unusable. To summarize, the license file
must be saved in the
appropriate
directory with the name: 'lservrc' only with NO
file
extension.
Why
am I getting this license file?
The
license file is part of a new method for
updating or upgrading SIMs.
Beginning
with SURFCAM 2001, the license file
automatically applies any
updates
or upgrades to a SIM and eliminates copy\pasting
and user input
errors.
Additionally, it is a necessary step as we fully
implement the
license
manager SIM technology. This method will be used
globally.
Therefore,
using the SURFCAM license file is not dependent
only on using
the
Network SIM License Manager software.
Does
this mean that all of my customers will need to
get Network license
manager
SIMs?
No.
We are implementing a multi-part process that
includes both network
LM
SIMs and standard LM SIMs.
a)
The NetworkLM is Surfware's true network license
manager SIM. A
specified
number of licenses are made available to be
"checked out" and
"checked
in" as needed. It is a multi-seat to single
SIM configuration.
The
NetworkLM is available and on our price list as:
SURFCAM Network
License
Fee (Per Floating License)
b)
The StandardLM is Surfware's standalone license
managed SIM. A
single
license is made available and is cached in the
SIM - It is a
single-seat
to single SIM configuration. The StandardLM SIM
will
eventually
replace the password SIM. The StandardLM is
similar to the
password
SIM in that the license is stored in the SIM and
the SIM can then
be
used in the field and in demos.
What
is the license file?
The
license file is a text file that contains
product levels, time
extensions,
permanent activations, options purchased and
other upgrade
information
for your SIM(s). For multiple SURFCAM seats
assigned to a
customer,
the license file replaces multiple password
documents.
How
do I know which seat the license file is for?
-or - Does the license
file
cover all the seats assigned to an end-user?
The
license file contains a license line for every
seat licensed to any
given
customer. If no upgrades are necessary for a
given seat, no changes
are
made, but a license line is still applied for
each seat. For example,
seat
'a' purchases a 4 Axis upgrade, but seats 'b'
and 'c' purchase
nothing.
The license file will contain license lines for
seats a, b and
c,
but only the product level for seat 'a' will
change when the license
file
is applied.
What
kind of updates or upgrades are included in this
license file?
Any
change to your licensed SURFCAM seat(s) is
handled through the license
file.
A license line (aka. password) is generated and
enclosed in the
license
file. For example, the license line in your
license file will
upgrade
your SIM if you receive a Solids (Design Plus)
upgrade -or- if you
purchase
an upgrade in product to your current SURFCAM
seat(s) -or- if a
permanent
activation is requested for a timed SURFCAM seat
-or- if you
renew
your maintenance support contract and receive a
software update
package.
NOTE:
If your company owns multiple seats, but an
update is not requested
for
all seats, only SURFCAM seat(s) that are updated
in our database will receive license lines
that will effect a change in the SIM. In other
words,
unless our database information changes, no
changes are made to
your
SIM even when a license line is applied to a
SIM.
Where
do I save the LSERVRC file when I receive it?
a)
The LSERVRC file must be saved to the same
directory as the
surfcam.exe
file.
b)
The LSERVRC file should be saved in the
specified subdirectory under
the
Program Files folder only if you are running the
full SURFCAM network
SIM
installation.
The
path is usually c:\program files\surfware\network
server\server\winnt.
[A seperate set of instructions will be
available
for
Network LM SIM installations]
If
I'm updating my SIM and I don't have SURFCAM
2001, how do I apply the
license
file?
If
you have not installed SURFCAM 2001 (the latest
version], we advise
that
you do so before using the license file. If you
have not received
SURFCAM
2001, please contact your local dealer. When
SURFCAM 2001 is
loading,
it will look for the license file and apply any
updates or
upgrades
to the SIM.
What
if I'm using SURFCAM 2000.1 and am not ready to
update yet?
We
strongly advise that you upgrade to the the
latest version. However, you
can
apply the update\upgrade by doing the following:
a.
Copy the License File, LSERVRC, into the same
folder as the
SURFCAM.exe
file. Do NOT change the name of the License File
or modify in
any
way.
b.
Open SURFCAM, then select the LSERVRC file from
the following menu:
Options
| Password | Browse File
c. If
the license does not update your SIM, search for
the siminfo.log
file.
Email the siminfo.log file to simsupport@surfware.com.
[Please note
that
the siminfo.log file is not applicable for
NetworkLM SIMs]
What
if I'm not ready to update from my pre-SURFCAM
2000.1 version yet?
Again,
we strongly advise that you upgrade to the the
latest version.
Please
contact your local dealer. However, there is a
multi-step process
for
updating a SIM in pre-SURFCAM 2000.1 versions.
You will need to open
the
license file using a text editor. Since the
LSERVRC (license) file has
no
file extension, you will need to associate the
LSERVRC file with your
favorite
text editor. Then, open the license file and
find the "paragraph"
that
corresponds to your system or SIM number. Copy
the license line [aka.
password]
information to the password input dialog box in
SURFCAM. The
password
string is located at the end of the
"paragraph" of the license line
that
corresponds to your system or SIM number.
Who
do I contact if I have not yet received my
LSERVRC (license) file?
Please
direct all request correspondence to
mailto:simrequest@surfware.com
Who
do I contact if I have a problem with my LSERVRC
(license) file?
Please
direct all license file problems to
mailto:simsupport@surfware.com
Include
a copy of the siminfo.log file [this is very
important]. The
siminfo.log
file is created or appended when a timed
extension -or- an
upgrade
of any kind -or- a permanent activation is
applied to a SIM. If
you
cannot locate this log file, select Options |
Password form the main
menu
and type 'surfcam'. Accept the input. SURFCAM
will apply that
text,
will display an error message, and will also
create the log file.
Send
this log file to Surfware Inc.
